Although the Wild West is most known for its wide cast of colorful rogues and outlaws, many men resisted their baser impulses to uphold peace and safety among the chaotic sands and prairies of America’s West.

The line between outlaw and lawman could often be blurred, though. Certain individuals upheld the law and doled out justice in ways that pushed the envelope of what was acceptable or arguably right. Some men were even deputized while being wanted criminals. Clashing jurisdictions and the lack of ubiquitous police surveillance meant that not everyone could be aware of a person’s misdeeds.

One such individual who occupies an old place in Wild West history is the lawman and gunslinger Wyatt Earp. Few could beat Earp in a shootout. His sordid history ended up causing him to roam all through the U.S.A. working just about the oddest assortment of jobs you can imagine. It was his work as a lawman that really made Earp into a historical figure, though. He braved some of the most dangerous places in all of North America to gun down berserk murderers and capture wanted fugitives.

So many tall tales surround Wyatt Earp that it can be murky to separate fact from fiction. With that in mind, if this quiz addresses any facets of Wyatt Earp’s mythology, we will be sure to say so clearly. Otherwise, it will be the facts that this quiz asks you to identify.
