Herbert Hoover
The more time that passes after a historic event, the more likely it is for that occurrence to grow blurred and misconstrued within the public consciousness. We have seen this many times across history as people misunderstand or purposefully misrepresent historical facts.
Such false representation can be a weapon in the hands of some. After all, the people who benefit from systems that victimize others will be happy to trick other people into thinking they also benefit from such an arrangement. As a result, it is fascinating that humanity collectively entered an age so dark that it radicalized millions into surrendering their freedoms for security. The Great Depression was a time that no one benefitted from with the exception of dictators.
All of the world felt the Great Depression to some extent. In America, the laissez-faire method of its economic system ensured that the second the economy dipped, many innocent working-class people were left penniless. Recent initiatives have at least offered safeguards to make sure such tragedies won’t reoccur. None of those were thanks to Herbert Hoover, though.
Hoover might have a bad rep because of his mishandling of the Depression, but it must be said that the man had his high points. Many different times, he made great sacrifices of himself and his resources to help those in need. This quiz will explore both sides of Hoover in the hopes of providing a view of how the Depression got so out of control in America.
